HouseTurns Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
HouseTurns helps housemates and families book shared things and spaces fairly. We are careful with your data: we only collect what the app needs to work, we show no ads, and we never sell data.
Who we are
HouseTurns is provided by Creative Media Platforms, Van Maanenware 22, 8014 PP Zwolle, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 42017946. We are the controller of your personal data. Privacy questions? Email info@creativemediaplatforms.com.
What data we process
- Account: your name, email address and language. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we also receive your name, email address and, if available, your profile photo from that service. With Apple you can hide your email address.
- Groups: the groups you belong to, your role (admin or member) and the things and spaces the group shares.
- Bookings: which resource you book and when, the status, an optional note and whether you want a reminder.
- Notifications: a push token and device type (iOS or Android) per device, your notification preferences, and which resources you follow to hear when they become free.
- Usage statistics (only if you consent): how the app is used, such as which screens you open and key steps (creating or joining a group, first booking, sharing an invite), plus general device information (model, operating system, app version, language, country). This data is linked to a user ID, but not to your name or email address. We use no advertising ID.
- Crash reports (only if you consent): technical data when the app crashes or hits an error, such as the error message, device model, operating system and app version, linked to the same user ID.
Purposes and legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Running your account, groups, bookings and notifications | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Security and preventing abuse | Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Usage statistics to improve the app | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) |
| Crash reports to fix bugs | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) |
The app asks once whether you want to share usage statistics and crash reports; without your yes, it stays off. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy. If you withdraw consent, the app stops sending anything from that moment on.
Who sees your data
- Your group members see your name, your role and your bookings in that group, including any note you add. Group admins can approve, change or cancel bookings.
- Google (Firebase) hosts the app for us as a processor: sign-in, database, server functions, push notifications, statistics and crash reports. The database and server functions are located in the European Union (data centres in Belgium and the Netherlands). Statistics and crash reports may also be processed outside the EU; Google relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
- Apple and Google deliver push notifications and, if you choose, handle sign-in.
We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep data
- We keep your account and profile until you delete your account.
- Bookings are deleted automatically once they are more than 90 days in the past.
- Invite codes are deleted when they expire (after 7 days).
- Usage statistics: 2 months.
- Crash reports: 90 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time in Settings → Delete account. We then immediately delete your profile, devices, upcoming bookings, invites and your sign-in account. If you are the last member of a group, we delete the group too. Past bookings remain visible in the group history without your name until they are cleaned up after 90 days.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict processing, to data portability and to object. Email info@creativemediaplatforms.com; we respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or your local supervisory authority.
Security
Data travels encrypted over the internet. Access to group data is limited to members of that group and is enforced on the server.
Age
HouseTurns is intended for people aged 16 and over. Younger family members use HouseTurns through a parent's or guardian's account; please don't create accounts for them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. We will let you know in the app about important changes.
